Our Story
A Family Legacy
Three Generations.
One Legendary Flame.
From the bustling streets of 1960s Bombay to a new generation of Asian fusion dining across India — a story that began with a single wok more than sixty years ago.
1960s — The Origins
SSI HAI Chinese Restaurant
Colaba Causeway, Bombay
In the vibrant 1960s, as Bombay emerged as one of Asia's great cosmopolitan cities, the late Mr. Chin Ping Liang (the founder's grandfather) opened SSI HAI Chinese Restaurant on the bustling stretch of Colaba Causeway.
What began as a humble restaurant soon became a defining landmark in the city's culinary history. At a time when authentic Chinese cuisine was still unfamiliar to many, SSI HAI introduced Bombay to the elegance of Cantonese cooking — blazing woks, fragrant sauces, delicate dumplings, and flavors crafted with precision and balance.
Its iconic Chinese junk ship logo quickly became a beacon for adventurous diners. Among them was legendary industrialist late Mr. J. R. D. Tata, along with international guests who came to experience the restaurant that was redefining Chinese dining in Bombay.
1980s — The Legacy
Chinese Palace Restaurant & Bar
Tardeo AC Market, Mumbai
In the 1980s, the story continued when the late Mr. Wen-Chung Wong (the founder's father) opened Chinese Palace Restaurant & Bar in Tardeo's renowned AC Market.
Chinese Palace quickly became one of Mumbai's most beloved Chinese dining destinations, celebrated for its bold sauces, vibrant atmosphere, and the unmistakable aroma of wok-fired perfection.
It was a place where celebrations unfolded, late-night conversations lingered over steaming dishes, and generations of loyal guests returned again and again for the flavors that had become part of the city's dining culture.
Today — The Evolution
Chinaura
India & Beyond
Today, the third generation carries this legacy forward. Mr. Liang-Thien Wong, the founder, channels more than six decades of culinary heritage into a bold new vision — Chinaura.
A name that blends China and Aura, the brand reflects both tradition and evolution. Signature creations such as the Chinese Burger™ and Chinese Pizza™ go beyond menu items. They represent the next chapter of a family story — six decades of Chinese culinary heritage reimagined for the modern palate.
From the legendary kitchens of Colaba Causeway to a new generation of Asian fusion dining, Chinaura continues a journey that began with a single wok more than sixty years ago.
Three generations. One enduring flame. The story is still being written.
